The story behind StreamChatGames — how a small streamer and Senior DevOps Engineer built an interactive chat games platform for Twitch streamers.
A few months into streaming, one of my early viewers dropped a piece of feedback that stuck with me: "You need more interactive stuff." They were right. Chat was quiet, engagement was low, and I was essentially talking to myself most of the time.
I'm a Senior DevOps Engineer with over 15 years in the industry, so my brain immediately went to "I could build something." What started as a quick idea for a simple chat betting game turned into a full platform. Turns out, once you start building interactive games for chat, you don't stop at one.
StreamChatGames lets your viewers play interactive games directly through Twitch chat. No downloads, no extensions, no viewer accounts required — just type a command and you're in. YouTube support is currently in development.
The first batch of games are casino-style — poker, roulette, blackjack, and plinko — because they're fast, easy to understand, and work perfectly with chat commands. They promote competition both within your channel and across the platform through leaderboards. But the platform isn't limited to betting games. The underlying system is built to support any type of interactive game, and non-casino games are a possibility if requested.
There are four games live right now:
!allin) — Texas Hold'em tournaments where everyone goes all-in. Fast, chaotic, perfect for chat.!bet) — Viewers pick numbers, colors, or sections and watch the wheel spin live on your overlay.!blackjack) — The whole chat plays one hand together, voting on hit or stand.!plinko) — Drop a ball and watch it bounce through the board for a multiplier payout.Every game has a live OBS overlay, a viewer dashboard where players can track their chips and stats, and a creator dashboard where you control everything.
I built this because I wanted it for my own stream. That means every feature exists because I actually needed it — not because a product roadmap said so. The permission system, the OBS overlays, the chat bot settings, the customization options — all of it came from real streaming sessions where I thought "this should work differently."
The entire platform runs on Cloudflare's edge network, so it's fast everywhere. No servers to manage, no plugins to install. Connect your Twitch account, add the overlay to OBS, and your chat can start playing.
I'm going to be upfront: this is a passion project built by one developer. My wife and I have QA tested extensively — she's been incredibly patient clicking through every game state and edge case — but with a platform this size, bugs are possible. If you run into something, I genuinely want to hear about it. There's a Contact Us page, and every report helps make the platform better for everyone.
StreamChatGames is free right now, and there will always be a free tier. But infrastructure and development costs aren't free — keeping the platform running and actively improving it takes real resources.
If the project grows, I may introduce paid tiers down the road. What that looks like isn't set in stone, but it would likely be something like limits on concurrent playing viewers for free users, or reserving advanced features like custom branding or new games for a paid plan. The core experience — your viewers playing games through chat — will always be free.
If you want to support the project today, there are early supporter options available through Ko-fi. Even a single month of support helps cover costs and keeps development moving forward.
Nothing is changing today. I'm sharing this early because I'd rather be transparent about it upfront than surprise anyone later.
The platform is in open beta and completely free to use. Here's what I'm focused on right now:
